Being a Hero, Take Two

Avril has just left the city of Mendefera and is looking for something to do to help out. She is not out long before she runs into a couple of bandits. She feels a knot form in her stomach as she sees that these two were part of the group of bandits that beat her last time.

The bandits both grin and mock her a bit before charging towards her. She pulls out her bow and fumbles pulling out an arrow. Before she has it fully drawn, one of the bandits hits his shoulder into hers making her drop the bow and the arrow to fly off harmlessly into the ground nearby. The bandit that had hit her kicks the bow away so that he is between Avril and the bow.

Avril backs up as the bandit closer to her pulls out a small sword and the bandit further back pulls out a small dagger. She starts to panic as she realizes that she was still unprepared for a fight. She lets out a short scream as the bandit lunges at her. She ducks behind a tree and continues backing away not daring to turn her back on them and run.

Sid had just left the city, not to travel anywhere, but to get a good scope of the land surrounding the city, see if there are any herbs of use around and stuff like that. He wasn't outside of the city very long before he heard a short scream. "A woman's cry so close to the Capital? Things must really be getting out of hand." thinks Sid aloud. Sid quickly heads towards the sound and sees an unarmed woman being attacked by two armed bandits.

Sid had come up behind them and starts quietly running up on the one furthest from Avril. He unsheathes one of his daggers and quickly reaches around the front of the bandits neck, holding it there and then grabbing the bandit like he is a hostage. "Hey!, your buddy could use some help." says Sid as he draws the full attention of both bandits, giving time for Avril to get away. It works at least for now as the bandit that was closer to Avril is now slowly walking back towards Sid and the other bandit.

Avril could not believe it. Already she had failed, already she needed saving. Luckily for her someone had indeed come to her aid, but looking at his fighting style she decided that this was no guard. She backed up a bit more and then hid behind a tree, peeking out at Sidney and the bandits. She doesn't dare go out and get her equipment for fear of being attacked again. She looks around to make sure there are no more bandits and then focuses back onto the scene in front of her. Right now she does not much trust this person that came to her aid.

Sid was relieved to see that Avril had gotten some space between her and the bandit, but was surprised that she didn't run further. Sid suddenly presses the dagger at the bandit's throat, not so it would cut, but so that it would be more uncomfortable. "Drop your weapon! Both of you!" The one that he has hold of immediately drops his dagger. The other one seems to consider what to do, but then he drops his sword to the ground and kicks it to the side.

Sid nods slightly. "Alright, now you that had the sword, walk away to the east, away from the city and then out of my sight, once you are gone I will release this one." The bandit that had had the sword quickly makes himself scarce. After he is out of sight Sid quickly pushes the one he had practically held hostage away from him and the bandit runs as he hears Sid unsheath his second dagger.

After they are both out of sight Sid looks to where Avril had been hiding. "You can come out now." He then sheaths his daggers. Then he picks up the Bandit's dagger and then walks over and picks up the Bandit's short sword. He notices an insignia on both the hilts. He then thinks to himself, 'These are Guard equipment from Mendefera. I ought return these as soon as I can.'

Avril watches as this man who had snuck up on them all makes the bandits look like amateurs, and then like cowards. How was he so calm in such a situation? Avril asks her self. The way his guard is down she assumes that he is indeed peaceful. After all, he could have killed the first bandit but did not. The first thing she does is goes and gets her bow. "Thank you kind sir, my name is Avril Bellevue. What is yours?" Avril starts looking for the arrow she had misfired and finds it rather quickly as it did not go far.

"My name's Sidney Hawkins." says Sid. "You sure you've had enough fighting experience to be out on your own?" Asks Sid "Regardless, if you want, I can escort you back to the Capital." says Sid, "I have to return these weapons to the Guards." Before she can even fully answer the questions Sid had asked he was already heading back towards the Capital.

Sidney Hawkins? A surprisingly civilized name for a fighter. Avril thinks to herself. She listens to him ask if she had enough experience to be on her own and then offered to escort her back to the capital. She didn't have time to answer before he had started walking off. She followed closely behind him. "I'll accept that offer. However I wonder how one would go about getting battle experience. After all, everyone around here hasn't the time. Oh, I know!" she says with delight.
